Pamela Ronald, JBEI’s Scientific Lead for Plant Pathology in the Feedstocks division, has been named the 2020 World Agriculture Prize laureate by the Global Confederation of Higher Education Associations for Agricultural and Life Sciences, or GCHERA. Ronald is a distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of California, Davis (one of JBEI’s six academic research partners) and with the UC Davis Genome Center. She becomes the first woman whose work is recognized by the award.

Jay Keasling, JBEI’s chief executive officer, will be awarded the Doing a World of Good Medal by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Ronald was elected in recognition of her distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Shih is JBEI's Director of Plant Biosystems Design.

The award recognizes the contributions of Department of Energy employees to the mission of the Department and to the benefit of the United States.

Rodrigues is among the laureates of 2018 Berkeley Lab Director’s Achievement Awards.

Irina Silva and Patrick Shih will be honored on November 30.

The Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), led by Berkeley Lab, was selected today as one of four DOE Bioenergy Research Centers to be awarded a total of $40 million to support innovative research on biofuels and bioproducts.

The award recognizes research excellence and leadership.
