JBEI volunteers at Bay Area Science Festival’s Discovery Day

FullSizeRender (1)The Bay Area Science Festival, the largest science education event in the Bay Area concluded this past Saturday, Nov. 7 with the 5th Annual Discovery Day at AT&T Park.  The Discovery Day was attended by 18,000 people.

This year, every exhibit was framed under investigative questions to encourage explorations and curiosity, and hoping that students will continue to explore throughout the school year.

With its hands-on table top activities, JBEI volunteers guided visitors through how biofuels are made. The activities included “Plant sample preparation”, “Fermentation in a Bag”, “Synthetic Biology with
Beads” and “Jello Microfluidics”.

The following JBEI volunteers participated at the event: Alex Tsai, Brett Russell, Eva Pan, Irina Silva, Leanne Chan, Manasi Raje, Phil Gach, Veronica Teixeira and Virginia Tartaglio.

JBEI had the kind support of Science@Cal and Berkeley Lab’s Workforce, Development & Education, Public Affairs and Government Affairs.
