JBEI names new Director of Technoeconomic Analysis

The Joint Bioenergy Institute (JBEI) Chief Science and Technology Officer, Blake Simmons, has announced that Dr. Corinne Scown will step into the role of Director of Technoeconomic Analysis. The announcement comes after an intensive national search and interview process. Dr. Scown who joined the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) in 2012 will continue to serve as Research Scientist in LBNL’s Energy Technologies Area, Energy Analysis & Environmental Impacts Division.

Dr. Scown has established herself as a thought leader in sustainability, cellulosic biofuel analysis, lifecycle analysis, and the intersection betweenwater and renewable energy. At JBEI Dr. Scown will work on projects related to the life-cycle cost and environmental impact assessment of biofuel and bioproduct pathways.

An alumna from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Scown earned a Master of Science degree in 2008 and a Ph.D. in 2010 both in Civil Engineering. Her Ph.D. dissertation was on “Life-Cycle Water Impacts of U.S. Transportation Fuels”. Her Bachelor of Science degree was earned at Carnegie Mellon University in Civil Engineering with a double major in Engineering and Public Policy. Before joining LBNL, Dr. Scown held several research roles between 2006 and 2012 at the University of California, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University and Northeast Midwest Institute.
