About the JBEI Industry Partnership Program

Companies choose to work with JBEI to accelerate innovation and time to market for biofuels, chemicals, feedstock, and other innovations. Our Industry Partners leverage JBEI capabilities with the goal of achieving a significant return on investment. We partner with start-ups and established companies and provide opportunities for companies to participate in JBEI at a level that best meets their needs.

Partnership Levels

JBEI Strategic Partners often sponsor multiple research projects and/or projects that leverage multiple capabilities within JBEI. Often the research is collaborative and sometimes a researcher from the industry partner will spend time as a visiting industry scholar at JBEI working on the project or receiving training in specific techniques. Research is conducted so that the sponsoring company has an opportunity to license resulting inventions exclusively or non-exclusively. The cost depends on the scope and complexity of the particular project.

JBEI Topical Partners sponsor research similar to that described above. The difference is that these partners sponsor a single research project, rather than multiple projects. The research may be collaborative and the industry partner may have one of their researchers spend time at JBEI working on the project or for training as a visiting industry scholar. Research is conducted so that the sponsoring company has an opportunity to license resulting inventions exclusively or non-exclusively. The cost depends on the scope and complexity of the particular project.

JBEI Supporting Partners sponsor smaller-scale projects or might join the JBEI Technological Economic Modeling Consortium. We offer these companies the opportunity to participate in the JBEI community and support biofuels research for a contribution of $20K and up/year for large companies or $10K and up/year for small businesses and
not-for-profit organizations.

JBEI Collaborators contribute to and participate in JBEI research through informal mechanisms. These collaborations provide unique opportunities for companies and JBEI to test the compatibility of JBEI technologies with commercial systems, compare innovation with the state-of-the-art, move feedstock traits into bioenergy crops, and apply new tools and technologies to real world problems. They often introduce innovations to our collaborators
